Olney Regains Pancake Title in Record Run

Janet Bunker, 17, set a record as Olney England reclaimed the international pancake racing title in Olney. She clocked 1 minute 3 seconds on a 415 yard course to beat Liberal rival Lynda Fox who finished 1 minute 7.3 seconds. Miss Bunker beat the previous record by 1.5 seconds, achieved by Rachel Crites last year.

Theft at Baker University Musical Arts Building

Baker University officials reported a 2500 dollar theft from the Musical Arts Building on campus in Baldwin. Three tape recorders, one stereo tape deck, three record players and four speakers were taken after Saturday afternoon. The loss includes new equipment. Miss Margart Howell, dean of Baker University students, reported the theft.

Journalists Gather for William Allen White Day at KU

William Allen White Day events at Kansas University bring together Sigma Delta Chi members led by William Payette of United Press International and Ralph Sewell of the Daily Oklahoman for a day of talks and reunions. State park fees debated at breakfast meeting in Kansas

More than 200 lawmakers attended a breakfast in Topeka where the question of charging admission to Kansas state parks sparked heated debate. Gov. Docking urged eliminating fees, with a bill already introduced. Fees include five dollars annual and one dollar for a 24 hour permit. Proponents included Bill Colvin and John Howe. opponents were Rep. George Jelinek and Rep. Oren Gray.

Boy Scout Week Displays Highlight Douglas County units

Lawrence reports about 40 Boy Scout units in Douglas County have created window displays for observance of Boy Scout Week. Elliot Gillerman, Pelathe District chair and KU geologist, notes unit participation and local displays. Famed Architect Alonzo Gentry Dies at 80 in Kansas City

Nationally recognized architect Alonzo H. Gentry died Monday in a Kansas City hospital at age 80. County Treasurer Edythe Norman forecasts record auto truck and motorcycle license sales in Douglas County, with auto tags already past 12 005 and motorcycle tags 348. Norman notes penalties begin Feb 16 and Mar 2, and urges residents to buy at the Courthouse after substation closures.

Wells Appears At Legislature For Revenue Bills

The Senate Assessment and Taxation Committee opened debate on three Avery urban study proposals to give cities and counties broader revenue powers. Leaders endorse the plans, arguing cities need more funding. Proposals include a local 0.5 cent sales tax, 10 percent of state income tax to cities, and up to 10 dollar vehicle fees, with projected per person gains.

KU Pharmacy Group Plans Eli Lilly Plant Tour

Kansas University Pharmacy School juniors and seniors will tour Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis this weekend. Dean Howard Mossberg along with professors Carlton Erickson and Morris Faiman will lead a chartered bus trip from Mount Oread. The educational tour runs Thursday and Friday with a Saturday return to Lawrence.

Flying saucer sighted by Ohio barber near his home

Zanesville barber Ralph Ditter photographed a saucer hovering about 25 to 50 feet above his house on November 13. He described a 20 foot diameter disc that floated silently, then disappeared. Dr. Benjamin Gilliotte, member of a national aerial phenomena group, saw the photos and urged further review by Project Blue Book headquaters.

City Residents Buy Dog Licenses Early
