City Defends Sidewalk Project After Court Ruling

Kansas Senate panel approves four medical malpractice bills

The Kansas Senate Public Health Committee backed four malpractice bills part of a larger package. Other bills move through the House Insurance Committee, including a measure forbidding plaintiffs from naming dollar amounts in suits. The package also requires reporting of state malpractice claims and creates a permanent study. A compromise bill asks judges to determine reasonable attorney’s fees at case end to moderate contingency fee structures.

Lawrence workers union cites 13 complaints to city manager

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Employees Association announced at a Thursday press conference its slate of 13 grievances against the city. Lawrence City Manager Buford Watson said he would treat the new group as others, with prior meetings having taken place with water department workers. The unions, affiliated under United Public Employees Associations of Lawrence, allege neglect and abuse, citing unsafe equipment, improper chemical storage, lack of first aid gear, missing training, favoritism, improper employer classification, irregular evaluations, inconsistent merit, and uneven overtime.

Kansas official to review CFCA extension requests

Kansas Department of Health and Environment Secretary Dwight F.
