John William Early 89 of Baldwin died Friday in an Ottawa nursing home where he had been a patient since October. He would have celebrated his 63rd wedding anniversary next March 21. A retired carpenter and First Methodist Church member, he is survived by his wife, two sons Edwin Baldwin and George Kansas City Kan, one daughter Ruth Sloan Oxnard Calif, seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services Sunday 2 pm at Lamb Funeral Home Baldwin with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

A bomb hoax at Topeka high school interrupted a Friday night musical, evacuating about 2,400 spectators while police searched the auditorium. An unidentified caller claimed a bomb would explode at 9:14 p.m. and then the crowd returned for the remainder of the performance.
