Convention bureau pushes Lawrence as ideal meeting site
The Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau promotes the city for conferences. Since its 1980 start, it has grown to attract state and regional associations, with bids winning for 1990 and 1991. In 1989 over 200 conventions drew about 50 000 attendees, aided by a 4 percent transient guest tax funding.
