Gil Reich, a Steelton native, transferred to Kansas after a clouded Army sophomore year and became a standout as quarterback and defensive back and later key guard in KU's 1953 NCAA title run. His career faced NCAA transfer hurdles and chancellor resistance before Warren Woody and Rep. Mumma helped him stay at KU. Reich earned an engineering degree, led Equitable Life’s retirement program, and remains a generous donor with wife Kay, shaping KU’s legacy.
