Two hikers rescued after Mount Washington avalanche
Two hikers on Mount Washington were swept 800 feet by an avalanche in whiteout conditions near Tuckerman Ravine. They were separated from companions and missed a turn, entering "the Lip" avalanche area, and sustained non life threatening injuries before rescue. Colleen with the U S Forest Service provided the update.

Roadwork closes 35th and Iowa to mid January in Lawrence
The Kansas Department of Transportation imposes a 24 7 full closure on eastbound and westbound 35th Street from Iowa Street to the Baker Wetlands Visitor Center and on 21st Street from E 1700 Road to E 1750 Road in Lawrence Douglas County. No detours provided. Expect minor delays and use alternate routes. Traffic signal work at K 10 and US 40 Six th Street interchange underway with flagging and 15 minute delays. Overall completion targeted for mid January 2014 weather permitting. Utilities install water lines on Highland Drive and ongoing traffic impacts near the Lawrence Public Library and vandorosa area 7 am to 5 30 pm. Kan sas Highway 10 South Lawrence Trafficway expansion begins phased completion expected Fall 2016. Emery Sapp & Sons Inc. is contractor with $129.8 million project.

Mario Edward Garnett, linked to a December 23 2009 Georgia bank robbery attempt and later Tupelo Mississippi and Phoenix incidents, was arrested in 2010 after making online threats against the president.
