Gallup New Mexico December 30 300 Navajo Indians were rescued by Indian service trucks after a sudden blizzard. The Kansas moratorium, enacted to ease tax burdens, allowed back taxes on 1933 and earlier to be paid with limited penalties by Sept 1 1934 and then at 6 percent until paid if current taxes were paid. In Douglas County about 4,000 properties were delinquent, with $298,484 total delinquent taxes across years, including $87,000 for 1935 and $59,000 for 1924. The 1935 peak tax rate for Lawrence was $729.91 per thousand, falling to $38.39 in the current year, while tangible property valuations reached record highs. Delinquency percentages declined from 10.4 in 1933 to 8.39 in 1935.
