Newtonian Will Be 100 Plans Huge Gathering
NEWTON AP Most of the 160 descendants of Mrs. F. H. Goertz will help her observe her 100th birthday Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. C. C. Koehn of Newton. Included will be five children Mrs. Koehn, Mrs. Henry F. Goertz and Mrs. B. G. Guhr of Newton, Mrs. A. A. Woelk of Newport Wash., and Mrs. Emil Schroeder of Goessel Kas. 32 grandchildren, 115 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Mrs. Goertz was among pioneer Mennonites in the Alexanderwohl Church of South Russia who migrated to the United States in 1874 and re established the church east of Goessel. She came to this country with her parents eight brothers and sisters. The family settled temporarily in Topeka while the men joined 200 others who had migrated with the Alexanderwohl group in the Goessel area to build homes.
