Aged Veteran McWhorter Weds Postponed Ceremony
Colonel Richard H. McWhorter II of Coffeyville Kansas, commander of the Kansas department of the Grand Army of the Republic, married 70 year old widow Catherine Doufman Reitline at her Mount Holly Springs Pennsylvania home. The 89-year-old Civil War veteran and his bride, who kept the wedding secret for two days, planned a southward honeymoon. Reverend Howard D. Bare, a cousin of the bride, performed the ceremony. Mrs McWhorter’s first husband died six years ago.
