Spending spree suspect confesses to Pleasant Grove robbery
John McDonald 22 of Baldwin confessed to being the lone bandit who robbed Noble Messer, proprietor of a Pleasant Grove store, Thursday night. Over $300 in cash and several checks were taken. McDonald, detained after a spent spree and a paid $150 on a Hudson coach, initially denied the crime, then claimed an accomplice, then confessed. He described leaving his car two miles south and a mile east of the store, walking to Pleasant Grove, seizing the cash, and hitching rides home. About a box of cash and pennies were found in his Baldwin room. Messer identified the pennies as those in the box stolen. McDonald tried to seize a deputy’s gun but was overpowered. Highway robbery charges will be filed.
