In Guatemala City Colonel Charles A Lindbergh arrived from Mexico City amid enthusiastic crowds of about 12 000. The American aviator was welcomed by Guatemala's army and President Chacon, who praised his Atlantic record and presented a medal in tribute to his daring journey and era of flight.
At dawn Colonel Charles Lindbergh lifted off from Mexico City bound for Guatemala in the Spirit of St Louis. The takeoff appeared smooth with no wind and a light ground mist. Thousands watched as Lindbergh headed east toward Tampico under escort by two army planes. His mother, who had not seen him depart on prior journeys, was on hand to bid him farewell.
Hopes center on a crash near Harbor Grace as radio hearsay and signals from Heart's Content suggest the Dawn may be down. Passengers included Mrs Grayson and Oskar Omdal with pilot Brice Goldsborough and others aboard, while naval and coast guard vessels scour the waters near Sable Island in daylight search efforts.
Bobby Jones the world famous golfer is named as one of seven candidates who passed the Georgia bar examination and will be admitted to practice law in the state. The announcement was made in Atlanta on December 28.

In Wichita Kansas Dee 28 AP H L Pitts a slot machine collector survived a gun fight with a bandit. Pitts showed powder burns and bullets pierced his hat and coat lapel. After handing over his money bag the bandit fired. Pitts drew his revolver and the bandit is thought wounded. The empty money bag was taken.
An informant from the Kansas state House says Louis D White will assume charge of the state boys industrial school in Topeka Monday, replacing Col Samuel G Clarke who refuses to resign. Clarke will stay on the payroll until February 1, with White in charge during the interim. Clarke seeks an investigation into the institution as Legion posts discuss resolutions.
Secretary Mellon reports to Congress that refunds of illegally collected taxes total 103,858,687 affecting about 240,000 people. The 12,133 page treasury document covers 1925 to 1938 with 1928 refunds at 68,388,865 and 1927 at 34,751,602. Congress funded repayments. Rep Williamson of SD notes impact. a cen! INVESTIGATE SLAYING
Authorities investigate if 5 M Rowley Mason City Iowa dryman was in Cottonwood Falls last September or William Edward Hickman the Los Angeles killer. Rowley’s body with a head wound was found in a weed patch along highway 56 east of town. Residents recall seeing a man resembling Hickman with Rowley after the slaying. A coupe linked to Rowley was found in Topeka days after the body was discovered.
Los Angeles officials dispute autopsy conclusions that Marian Parker died from heart failure induced by fright. District Attorney Asa Keyes says she was strangled by William F. Hickman, who remains in jail awaiting arraignment. Hickman presses for a speedy trial while Wagner asserts the cause was fright and exhaustion.

Alleged mishandling of the reconditioning contract for the former German ship Geieben now Yavouz Sultan Selim and a missing 100000 liras from parliamentary funds implicating the bursar and several deputies. The president pledges a stern crackdown to end corruption.
County treasurer estimates tax collections on the last day before penalties will exceed 140000 dollars after mail receipts from December 20 are opened. Tuesday evening totals show 137382.24 dollars in taxes paid, with bank distributions to follow for in banks in small towns.

Albert Villard, 50, Delano rancher, killed three brothers August Eugene and Gabriel Villard and wounded Joe Villard on a ranch in the Woody district before escaping. A sheriff's report confirms the deaths and the wounded man en route to Bakersfield.
A Chinese note to foreign consulates in Canton claims Russians led the Communist uprising and the burning of the city. It cites arms, flags, and maps proving Soviet consulate as the Communist HQ and says the Russian consul-general will be detained until documents are translated. Approximately one eighth of KU students last fall held advanced standing from other colleges. President Coolidge signed a Montana senator sponsored bill to allow M T Everhart son in law of Albert B Fall to testify in the Teapot Dome conspiracy case without self incrimination The bill shortens the government fraud statute from six to three years enabling Everhart to disclose evidence previously withheld The events Come within six years prompting the change to aid prosecutors in presenting key testimony in the Sinclair Fall inquiry

The Khenifra region in the Middle Atlas suffered severe damage with crops destroyed roads cut and farms isolated.
A violent northeasterly gale today lashed the sea to fury along the English Channel and the Atlantic coast of France. Liners were delayed and ports filled with stormbound ships. Telegraph poles were toppled inland, crippling communications. Snow and blizzard conditions affected northern France as rivers swelled from days of rain.
Law rence observed a Court of Honor at the Chamber of Commerce as Troops 3 and 8 joined five existing groups. Dozens earned tender foot ranks and seven advanced to second class while nine scouts received fifteen merit badges. Kiwanis scores listed for each troop.

Two city amateur radio operators Fergus McKeever and Donald Dixon reported that at about 2 o clock Monday morning they picked up ARDI a Swedish expedition ship to the South Pole and talked with its operator for about forty minutes McKeever received two messages from ARDI one to relatives in Columbus Ohio and another to a radio concern in Tuckertown NJ The station is located at McKeever s home 1221 West Campus road and stations worldwide were heard during an evening of work Also Gavin McNab a San Francisco attorney and Democratic figure was found dead seated in his office in San Francisco
A petition seeking a 24 foot sand surface on the 415 mile Lakeview Road was filed with the county clerk Tuesday. Thirty eight landowners totaling 2,535 12 acres of 4,084 acres in the benefit district signed. The road runs about 43 miles from the northwest corner of Lawrence to the Santa Fe tracks at Lakeview. Other petitions request sand surfaces for about 1 4 miles of road in Douglas County along benefit districts. A separate petition to land Lone Star Road southwest of Lawrence was filed, from the Wakarusa river bridge on highway 73W to Lone Star, about 9 1 miles.
Albany December 28 Governor Smith set January 5 for a clemency hearing for Henry Judd Gay and Mrs Ruth Snyder convicted of the murder of Albert Snyder at Queens Village The governor notified Mrs Snyder counsel and Gray that he would hear pleas for clemency for either or both in the Capitol at noon Gray has no prior application but may appear with Mrs Snyder's attorneys to seek commutation Both prisoners are in Sing Sing death house awaiting execution the hearing is open to counsel for the two.
Oskaloosa Kansas December 28 AP Carl Wilson convicted last month of second degree murder for the death of his wife more than a year ago. A new trial motion was granted yesterday by Judge M A Beade. Wilson contends the death was accidental during milking. State accuses clubbing.
Roman alias Will Carter was arrested yesterday afternoon by Officers Messer and Callahan on a check forging charge in Hannibal. Carter passed a 22.50 check at Newman Shoe Store, 805 Massachusetts Street, claimed the funds came from a farmer. Store owner Newman tracked him west across city streets and notified police, leading to Carter’s arrest at Seventh and Indiana streets. he was turned over to the sheriff.
In Kansas City Dec 28 A P Sergeant B H Thurman head of the Motor Theft Bureau said questioning of Orville Garrison and Paul Durkee arrested yesterday in Parsons has already helped clear up several holdups in Kansas City Floyd Garrison brother of Orville and Russell Embrey arrested here yesterday have admitted about ten robberies Sergeant Thurman said Orville Garrison and Durkee were to be returned from Parsons where they were held after attempting to trade clothing for gasoline to continue a Tulsa trip police stated They were detained while Parsons police investigated ownership of their motor car.
Dolph Simons business manager of the Journal-World heads to Florida with stops in Louisville and Chicago for the Miami Riviera event in Coral Gables. He will be hosted by John D.
