Boy Drowns After Thin Ice Breaks on Lake View
Amos Levi Martin, 17, of Lake View, plunged through a thin ice sheet on Lake View while skating with friends. Rescuers fought to revive him after he disappeared into about ten feet of water near the Lake View Schoolhouse. Despite neighbors and the caretaker Gentry rushing to help, lack of ropes and delayed equipment hampered efforts. The victim, a Christmas gift recipient, was pronounced dead after artificial respiration and arrival of medical staff from Lawrence. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs William G Martin and siblings. Funeral services are planned at Friends church tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
