A lighthearted Kansas year in review features an 80 year old man reported missing by police after a neighbor thought he was on fire. A Ottawa couple’s stolen getaway car was towed after a wedding, and a De Soto resident received a doomsday prank check.
Lawrence High students are among 73 Kansas youths named Summerfield Watkins and Honor scholars at Kansas University for 1963 64. Alan Hitt Catherine Hyder Judith Thompson Danny Brune and Donald Malone earned the awards based on merit after statewide tests and interviews conducted at KU.
Antigua Barbados Dominica Grenada Montserrat St Christopher Nevis Anguilla St Lucia and St Vincent announce plans to form a Federation of the West Indies seeking regional unity and economic cooperation.
Herbert H. Mack of Topeka and Lawrence, 77, died Saturday night after a long illness. Funeral services were at Penwell-Gabel in Topeka with Mount Hope Abbey burial. Survivors include his widow Gertrude, three daughters, three brothers, a sister, five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Mack founded Mosby-Mack, led University Ford Sales, and served as director of the National Automobile Dealers Association and Kansas Motor Car Dealers Assn. He was active in Masonic work.
Retrospective notes recall the 1935 St Benedict's College Atchison challenge to Kansas University. The game ended 42-0 after a rough affair, while priests and locals filled the stands in a record turnout.

The Cecil Moller family at 913 Sunset Dr had about $200 worth of wrapped Christmas gifts stolen in a burglary. Entry was gained via an unlocked garage and the intruders pried open the door to the house.

A 23 year old student teacher Miss Bobby Jean Greenlee arrived at her parents’ Belleville Kansas home at 1 30 a m exhausted and cold after an unexplained Christmas trip. She had planned to drive from Prairie Village to Belleville and stayed in a Concordia motel from 1 30 a m Saturday to 6 30 a m Sunday.
The 103 day Chicago racing season at Arlington Washington Balmoral drew 1 579 204 fans who wagered 133 730 539 in 1962.
