North Korea said an American U2 aircraft violated the armistice by a two hour flight over its territory on December 6. Maj. Gen. Chang Chung hwan reported to the Armistice Commission that the drone came from Yunpyang, while U.S. Gen. Gill promised an investigation and accused North Korea of a buildup of more than 500 combat planes. U.S. defense officials provided no comment.

Stan Grigg a 15 year old LHS quarterback from Lawrence is returning home today after a knee operation at Kansas University Medical Center. This marks his second knee surgery and he is the son of Mr and Mrs Walt A Grigg of 1655 Miss St.
Congressman Robert Ellsworth urged closing most Veterans Administration offices in Europe saying need faded after World War II. He noted only 83 veterans study overseas now and consuls can handle issues, urging cost savings. The talk followed a VFW Post 852 dinner at the Little Banquet.

The No. 2 administrator at the University of Mississippi, Charles Haywood, resigned effective Jan. 31 after a dispute with the Board of Trustees over readmitting a student expelled during protests surrounding James Meredith. Haywood said he leaves to become director of economic research at the Bank of America in San Francisco.
Police recovered Karen Ann Garner and Carrie Warner unharmed after a man abducted them from a Salt Lake City residence on Friday evening. He surrendered after a 10 block chase, a loaded .32 caliber firearm found in his car, and he was booked for holding against the will. The girls were checked at Salt Lake General Hospital and remained calm.
