Gov. Nelson Rockefeller announced the month long hunt for his explorer son Michael in New Guinea had been halted. He confirmed the tragedy and said Dutch officials reported nothing more could be done as Michael, 23, disappeared after his native boat sank on November 19.

Kansas Public Service Co officials have no word on new gas rates set to take effect Saturday. L C DeMoss said Cities Service Co has not received a ruling from the Federal Power Commission. The FPC reportedly cut Cities Service rate requests in half, which would raise the average gas bill by about 35 to 40 cents monthly. If no decision by Saturday, meters are not read until about January 8.
