A $300 17th Century Italian baroque bronze toad was stolen from the A. D. Weaver Memorial Fountain Court at Kansas University and recovered after an anonymous note led KU police to a locker 106 in Union Station Kansas City. The toad, 54 by 8 inches, donated via the Watkins fund, was wrapped in a Kansas City newspaper and secured by six inch bolts.

Seven aboard C-124 dead in Kansas City crash
A C-124 Globemaster from the 442nd troop carrier wing crashed near Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base during an emergency approach killing all seven crew members. The seven Air Force reservists, recalled to active duty, were Maj. Jacob T. Battenberg, Capt. Brodie Bryant, Capt. Bobby E. Wunsch, 1st Lt. Warren R. High, Master Sergeant DeWitt F. Edgar, Master Sergeant Garland C. Van Meter, and Airman K. Dale R. Willert. The crash occurred three miles south of the runway in a marshy field amid mud and snow as witnesses watched a column of dirt and blue smoke rise from the wreckage. Ten Lawrence reservists from the same unit were later identified but not listed here.

Illegitimates Are Objects of Drive in Kansas
In Montgomery County Kansas a drive against illegitimacy led to eight men and three women being convicted on lewd conduct or related charges. All women charged in the two weeks had more than one illegitimate child.
