German reports say 34 British bombers were shot down and 44 British planes took part in a massive air clash off the German coast near Helgoland. Salvation Army Christmas Dinner Fund drives aid shortages

Boxes with Help the Salvation Army Christmas Dinner Fund signs appear in city shops to cover kettle shortages. Four street kettles have raised 125 dollars so far. Montevideo reports reveal the Admiral Graf Spee was scuttled by her crew under Adolf Hitler’s orders after internal explosions. Christmas shopping extended hours in Lawrence week

With one week left before Christmas Lawrence merchants will stay open until 9 PM each evening this week. The post office will also offer extra hours with one window open until about 9 PM. Santa will visit downtown tonight and return Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Chase Ends In Crash After High Speed Pursuit

A fast chase through city streets and rural roads ended when a 1934 Ford crashed a mile north of town.
