Polar cold grips two thirds of nation across breadth

A vast polar air mass covered more than two thirds of the United States from the Northeast to Texas and the Northwest. Subzero readings persisted in Montana while Browning, Montana faced a water outage after a main collapse. Wyoming and Illinois suffered fatalities in cold conditions and several counties in Montana were declared disaster areas as blizzards lingered.

Woman Burns As Baldwin House Is Gut by Fire

Mrs. Eunice Walker of Baldwin suffered severe burns when her one story home near the Baker University stadium caught fire about 8 am. Fire started in the heating area and the entire house was gutted. She was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and walked to neighbors for help.

Meeting Called Tonight On KU Student Housing

The KU Student Housing Committee of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce will meet at 7 30 p m with the Lawrence City Commission KU Chancellor W Clarke Wescoe and KU staff to discuss housing for students enrolling through 1968 and a proposed privately financed dormitory at 19th and Naismith.
