City weighs expanding underground parking for grocery project
Lawrence officials and developers led by Mike Treanor discussed widening the underground garage from about 160 to 340 spaces to cover the grocery store and 72 apartments while replacing 67 public spots. Treanor questioned needs, noting urban stores require less parking, and the plan hinges on city incentives and potential Hobbs Taylor covenant issues.

Jayhawk designer Sandy and the 1946 logo origins
In a 2008 Journal-World interview, Sandy recalled drawing the Happy Jayhawk in 1946 to be less warlike. He sold decals for a dollar each and earned 250 when selling the logo to KU Bookstore a year later. He later learned royalties funded KU, now in the millions, and he never repeated the drawing. He led an ad agency in Kansas City and left survivors including wife Wilda and a nephew.
