Lawrence High School Choral Concert Planned

The Lawrence High School A Cappella Choir will present its 15th annual Christmas Prelude at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the LHS auditorium. Soloists include Patty McGrew Cindy Brown Jim McCalla and Richard Seaver with Nancy Maloney and Nancy Gallup as accompanists. R. Wayne Nelson directs. The program features Fanfare for Christmas Day and a sequence of sacred and light pieces including And the Glory of the Lord and Hallelujah from Handel, Silent Night, Now is Christmas Come Irish Carol, Sleigh Ride, and The Nutcracker Suite among others with audience participation and a final White Christmas arrangement.

Argersinger Advances KU Research Role in State Industrialization

Dr. Argersinger, 44, named to a new KU post to supervise and promote research funding. Since 1956, sponsored grants at Lawrence grew from about $1 million to over $314 million in 1961 62, with aims to place Kansas University at the forefront of an era of research driven industrial growth.

Balloonists Reach 81500 Feet In Project Stargazer Flight

At Holloman Air Force Base New Mexico Air Force Captain Joe Kittinger Jr and civilian William White landed near Highway 81 about 150 miles west of the base after an 18 hour 32 minute ascent and descent. Kittinger piloted the balloon and White led the experiments.

Canvass Planned For Haskell Christmas Fund

Lawrence's Local 763 will canvas downtown Saturday to raise funds for the Haskell Christmas Fund. Organizers aim to top $1,000 for needy Haskell students, with mail donations accepted through Dec. 1 to 71914 Mass. St. Checks made out to the Haskell Christmas Fund. The drive seeks to become an annual event with cooperation from the Lawrence Business Association.
