British air and ground forces pound Italian positions along the Egyptian border as 26 000 Italians reportedly become prisoners. Descriptions say Derna and other Libyan targets were hit while retreating Italian columns are harassed by fighter planes.
Col William J. Donovan former assistant attorney general and Fighting Sixty-Ninth commander left for Lisbon Portugal by clipper yesterday on an unexplained mission to Europe. Donovan arrived in Bermuda a week ago from Baltimore traveling under the name Donald Wilama with three Englishmen including a man said to be attached to the British embassy. He was the guest of Hamieh Mitchell in Bermuda.
Postmaster Roger Williams who recently had major surgery at Memorial Hospital will be moved to his home Sunday or Monday an official announced.

The Douglas County board of commissioners and welfare department chiefs met with Dr. H L Chambers of the county medical society to discuss a welfare medical setup. Dr Penfield Jones has resigned as county health doctor, but he and assistant Dr Wray Enders will continue temporarily while a new county care setup is devised. A near agreement with the medical association collapsed after state welfare officials objected to certain aspects, with further proposals under discussion.
Frigid conditions linger in Kansas with more freezing rain sleet and snow. Snow depths reach 8 to 7 inches in northern counties as subzero readings persist in western areas. Western lows near minus 9 while eastern lows dip to minus 10 to 15 or 15 to 20 above zero with warming expected tomorrow.

The Simpson Farm home of Lewis Simpson, a colored pioneer, on the Wakarusa near Rock Creek was destroyed by fire Thursday night. It started from a stove upstairs and efforts to save the house failed, leaving the family with nothing downstairs.
The ashes of Lord Lothian Britain's wartime ambassador to the United States will repose indefinitely in a vault at Arlington Cemetery Virginia. An Anglican service is planned in Washington Cathedral with Woodrow Wilson and other notable Americans in attendance. An army caisson will transport his body from the British embassy and President Roosevelt will be represented at the funeral by Stephen Early.
Gridmen and citizens attend the football banquet at the K U Memorial Union to hear George Patsy Clark, a 20 year coach in college and pro football. The dinner honors high school university and Haskell players with a 6 30 start and a quiz session, talks by coaches, and a 20 minute movie of top games. Tickets are sold for 1 dollar.
The Vocational Agriculture Alumni association hosts its annual Christmas party at the Lawrence Country Club on Tuesday evening. The event begins at 8 o clock with a planned program, followed by dancing cards and games. Refreshments will be served at the close. all members urged to attend.
