Gas Stations Plan Holiday Closings Across Nation
A spot survey shows thousands of gasoline service stations will close for three days at Christmas and New Year. Associations report many members will shut from Saturday night before each holiday to the following Wednesday. John Huemmr ich of the National Congress of Petroleum Retailers says about half the stations will close. Over 80 percent of the 220 000 stations have already closed this month from 9 p.m. Saturday to midnight Sunday. AAA is compiling final figures but expects a substantial number.
