Two Day Farm Conference Planned in Douglas County

WPA Project Is Started In City
The first WPA project for Lawrence began today after word from WPA Topeka. Concrete paving will cover South Park street from Vermont to New Hampshire, and other streets, with 1,400 yards of rock quarried over about three weeks. Project cost about 16000 dollars, half by city for materials and the remainder by WPA for labor. Supervisors Roy Mongold and Leonard Jella, both of Lawrence, named to run the work.

Drowns in icy lake after speedboat accident in Andes
Buenos Aires December 13. Carlos Ortiz Basualde 37 a cattle baron and husband of Leanora Hughes famed dancer drowned when his speedboat capsized on icy Lake Nahuel Huapi with a mechanic aboard. They had two children, Leanora Hughes and Maurice once part of a famous dancing duo with Maurice. Maurice died years earlier in Lausanne.
