Damage suit filed over fatal Douglas county bridge crash
J W Payne and Etta Payne sue the Douglas county board of commissioners for 16000 in district court over the death of their son Marion Jayne age 20 from injuries in a December 24 1933 motor car accident at the Deichman bridge over the Wakarusa on the Deemer road near Blue Mound. The suit is the sixth against the county. others in the crash include Fern Hadl who won 500. Florence Taylor and Buford Taylor lost. Ruby Hadl and Jess Hadl still have suits pending. Marion died four days after the wreck. Plaintiffs claim death deprived them of his support and aid caused by defective bridge approach and highway conditions.
