The University of Kansas state geologist Raymond C. Moore says a full state oil and gas survey would cost less if funded by individuals. A new bulletin titled Oil and Gas Resources of Kansas provides maps for Butler, Franklin, Miami, Allen, Woodson, Wilson, Neosho, Labette, Montgomery, Chautauqua and Cowley counties. It aims to make high priced geological data available to all Kansans and includes a history of oil and gas production, 64 cuts, and over 200 pages. Death of Benjamin Adams Former Resident of Cottage Grove
Benjamin Franklin Adams, known as Doc Adams, died at his Cottage Grove home in Oregon at age 74. A Douglas County pioneer, he moved from Warrenburg Missouri to the county in 1854, later relocating to Cottage Grove in 1874 after living quarters near Peterson farm. He served in the Civil War with Company M Eleventh Kansas Cavalry during the final months of the conflict and was respected by Oregon veterans.
