Blue traffic lights reduce red light running at intersections
Lawrence police noted benefits and drawbacks of blue signal lights used at two test intersections. The lights allowed officers better positioning and safer stops but lacked a full 360 degree view from the highest point above some signals. Lights remained at 23rd and Louisiana but not at 23rd and Iowa after intersection changes. The university and city officials shared findings with the Mid-America Transportation Center and Lawrence Traffic Engineer, with a report slated for publication online.
