New trial date set in Alabama man sexual extortion case
Devaris Lamar Howard 21 of Gadsden Alabama faced two felonies in Douglas County District Court for sexual extortion tied to 2022 incidents involving a University of Kansas freshman. A jury found him guilty on one count while the second count hung. A new trial date is Feb 20 2024. Howard remains in custody as sentencing for the first conviction will precede the retrial.
