Lawrence swears in new City Commission and elects Littlejohn mayor
The Lawrence City Commission sworn in three new members on Tuesday night as Bart Littlejohn was chosen mayor. Incumbents Finkelder and Sellers return for second terms, with Mike Dever returning to office since 2015, replacing Courtney Shipley. Littlejohn, a 2021 commissioner, highlighted housing, homelessness, and economic growth as priorities under the “A Place for Everyone” plan with Douglas County. He aims to add 850 affordable housing units in 3 to 5 years and back the Lawrence Community Shelter, seeking state and federal help for progress. Dever thanked supporters and pledged collaboration with fellow commissioners.
