A jet plane crashed during a low level strafing drill at CAMP PENDLETON California killing the pilot 1st Lt. David L. Day and two Marines among 120 stationed on a hill Pvt Raymond J. Eckert 18 of Chicago and George R Parker 22 of Americus Georgia were reported among the dead.
The Air Force said a runaway Snark missile launched from Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, may have landed in the Brazilian jungle near the Amazon River. No warhead or explosives were indicated, and no wreckage has been found in the dense jungle, making discovery unlikely.
