Republicans Draft 1950 Platform Amid Senate Split

Two GOP senators said Republicans plan a 1950 congressional platform though consensus remains elusive. Brewster of Maine heads the senatorial campaign committee and backs Gabrelson's proposed statement, while Taft of Ohio resists some GOP foreign policy positions. Butler of Nebraska and Lodge of Massachusetts support a concise policy statement as Taft prepares to oppose housing and education measures. Brewster predicts good Senate prospects in several states, though Democrats could still hold control.

KU Journalism School Roots Traced by Leon Flint

Professor Leon N. Flint led Sigma Delta Chi members on a tour of journalism’s origins at the University of Kansas. He noted the first journalism course was offered by sociology with no record of enrollment, and that late 1900s reporting classes in English marked the real start. Flint, who became the department’s first head, cited early cinema in classes as well. The event followed the initiation of 26 new fraternity members including George Brown Jr and Lloyd Holbeck of Lawrence and Robert Sigman of De Soto.
