Radar Equipment Bound for Russia
Former Air Force Major George Racey Jordan testified at a news conference that he ripped secret radar equipment from four planes bound for Russia during the war and claimed a fifth carried the same material to the Soviet Union. He said the radar parts were taken at Great Falls Montana and that another plane left Washington without stopping there. He cited orders from associates and alleged Soviet interest in uranium products as part of a broader intelligence context.

Coal Road Boss Acts As Go-between In Mine Dispute
In New York on December 6, Robert D. Young of the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad acted as an intermediary in a coal dispute. He met with two operator representatives at his Lexington Avenue office and then reportedly planned another meeting with United Mine Workers officials. Also in session were Lavin of Pittsburgh Consolidated Coal and Joseph P. Routh of a New York holding company. Officials said John L. Lewis might join later. The railroad emphasizes its coal transporting role as the industry’s largest coal-originating line. Meanwhile a union group led by Thomas Kennedy held talks with anthracite operators at the Waldorf Astoria, while Ralph E. Taggart led the employer side. Kennedy said Lewis would not attend the first session. Meady in Washington noted the New York meeting involved other operators with no split indicated. Lewis remained in Washington as talks continued.
