Upland-game hunting in Kansas waning says veteran hunters
Longtime Kansas upland game hunters warn the sport will fade by 2030 as aging, dwindling bird populations reduce quail and pheasant numbers. Blair Flynn predicts future clubs and private preserves will host the few remaining enthusiasts while others retire. Some hunters, like Royce Stiffler, remain active, traveling far to chase birds.

Quail and pheasant season start struggles in western Kansas
Stiffler recounts a tough opening to this year's quail and pheasant seasons. Snow blanketing Graham County limited birds, drought thinning hatch success left many roosters wary yet a later hunt near Ellis County and Hays yielded two coveys and ten quail. He remains hopeful for December and January improvements despite low quail numbers in Anderson County and potential southern pockets in Neosho County.
