Pulitzer winner Gwendolyn Brooks dies at 83
Pulitzer Prize winning poet Gwendolyn Brooks died Sunday at age 83 from cancer at her home. Brooks won the 1949 prize for Annie Allen and had served as Illinois poet laureate since 1968. Born in Topeka and raised in Chicago, she produced hundreds of poems and more than 20 books.
