24 year old questioned in Hillside Strangler killings

Los Angeles authorities questioned Bennett Merrett a 24 year old clothing store worker from Hesperia about a series of killings and rapes of young women. Humphrey Honored at Carter Benefit Gala

President Carter and a 2500 person celebrity audience saluted Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey at a four hour, 1000 dollar a plate gala to raise funds for the Hubert H. KU Student Improves After Campus Shooting

A 20 year old Kansas University student wounded in the abdomen by a small caliber pistol at McCollum Residence Hall has improved from poor to fair. KU police said Friday the incident is not classified as a criminal case and he was admitted to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Two Die In Tree House Blaze In Joplin

A teenage boy and girl perished in a plywood tree house fire in Joplin Missouri. Police said they cannot identify the victims by sight and are using dental records. Neighbors report the youths used a candle to light the treehouse and investigators suspect it may have tipped over. Firefighters responded at 6 20 a m but found the structure destroyed.
