Safe Lives Up to Its Name Intruders Tug to No Avail

Burglars attempted to steal Jimmy Cole's anchored safe at Cole's IGA in North Lawrence. A wrecker from Raw Motors backed to the northwest corner of the store, broke a large window, but could not move the safe. the effort caused thousands in damages and boarded windows. Police estimated store damage above $2,000 and noted brick damage from floor to ceiling. The break-in was discovered around 5:30 am and the burglars fled, leaving the scene uncertain before dawn.
