Lawrence police warned merchants to watch for professional and amateur shoplifting during the Christmas season after two Kansas City women were arrested on grand larceny charges. Local Man Assaulted In Kansas City Motel
A 49 year old man from Lawrence reported being assaulted in a room at the Holiday Inn Motel near U.S. 50 and Metcalf in Overland Park. Elmer K. Markle said he was hit with a table lamp about 5:30 a.m. Friday as an assailant tried to steal his wallet. He was treated at Shawnee Mission Hospital for facial and head wounds.

Mr Bradley was a lifelong Douglas County resident and Clinton Presbyterian Church member.
