Des Moines area man Frank Volakovic of Jawa Falls seeks release from a Hungarian prison where he was held since last June for displaying American enthusiasm. He was sent by a university gymnasium association in competition. Report notes the American party was ordered to disperse after displaying the stars and stripes.
Cannon was today elected speaker of the House by 204 votes, defeating Julor Sharp Williams who secured 154 votes. Washington, Dee. The clear win marks a decisive outcome in the chamber race.

Guthrie Oklahoma December 2 Republicans nominate two U S senators from eastern and western Oklahoma. Clarence Douglas of Muskogee is chosen for eastern Oklahoma and Charles Jones of Oklahoma City for western Oklahoma. Result came from the Republican minority caucus held this morning.
Populist National Committee chairman Fer ris issues a call for the Populist National convention to be held in St. Louis on April 2 to nominate candidates for president and vice president. All citizens favoring action independent of old parties and endorsing the Omaha platform may vote for delegates. The party opposes systems paralyzing industries and seeks to defend industrious millions.
Baltimore reports a Baltimore and Ohio railroad collision at Shenandoah Junction this morning killed three passengers. The victims include W L Hoffman and his daughter Nellie, both from the B&O cashier’s department in Baltimore, with one unidentified white man among the dead. Dozen others reported injured but not fatally.

Karlsruhe report states Karl Hall, once a University of Washington professor, had his death sentence for killing his mother in law reduced to life imprisonment after legal review.
John T. Ewing celebrated his eighty birthday with a surprise party at his home in Lawrence. Twenty relatives and grandchildren attended, all residing in Lawrence.
Gertrude McPheters was declared of unsound mind this morning before Judge Means. An application will be made to admit her to a state hospital for care and confinement.
