Hearing Set In Bartell Case At KU College Freshman
Oren H Bartell a Kansas University freshman admitted stealing Glenn Charltons Stutz car. He asked for a preliminary hearing set for December 11 at 2 oclock before Justice of the Peace R B Stevens. Bond fixed at 500. The incident followed Bartell being arrested at the bus depot after Charlton reported the theft. The car was found in a ditch near Indiana Street. Also arrested were Kenneth Higgins 17 and Robert Brooks 19 on U S Highway 40 west of the city for a stolen Chevrolet coach. Higgins waived preliminary hearing and was bound over to district court on 500 bond. Higgins and Brooks were masked and had two pistols and chloroform. H G Gibson pleaded guilty to drunken driving and received 90 days in jail and 32 50 costs. Byron Wilson arraigned on liquor possession. preliminary hearing set for December 11. Wilson was arrested Wednesday night in the 700 block on Red Massachusetts Street. For religious school, the educational committee plans a weekly session next year under the Lawrence Council of Religious Education headed by Prof Paul B Lawson with Rev C A Richard and Rev A D Grey.
