Union Urges Study of Reuther's Plan
Detroit Walter Reuther head of the United Auto Workers demands a price cut plan be studied by the White House. He wants an immediate and sympathetic reply as the UAW pushes for a 1958 car price reduction of about 100 dollars while offering to adjust contract demands in next year’s negotiations. The Big Three oppose the proposal with Ford citing inflation rhetoric and GM and Chrysler confirming their resistance. The White House says it cannot comment on specific proposals but views the union stance as a hopeful sign for civic responsibility in labor talks.
