FDA probes late arrival of air tankers at Westhampton blaze
The FDA and Agriculture Department opened a review after tanker planes arrived a day and a half late to combat a Westhampton wildfire that burned 2 square miles, damaged homes and a railroad station. Officials voiced frustration over delays in mobilizing C-130 aircraft, with Senator D'Amato and FEMA involved in seeking answers. A report to President Clinton was planned by week’s end.
