Salvation Army to add showers for Lawrence homeless
Lawrence Salvation Army will install two showers and renovate a bath room at its homeless shelter on 946 N. H. As part of a city funded project the work may start in about two weeks and cost under 14 500 dollars. Plans also call for showers changing rooms and a laundromat at Second Christian Church by Thanksgiving. The shelter will open daily in October and towels will be donated by St Josephs Hospital in Wichita.

Jayhawk Music Festival heats up Clinton Lake State Park
About 10,000 fans braved near triple digit heat at Clinton Lake State Park for the first Jayhawk Music Festival featuring 10 regional bands. Sold out by 2:30 pm, fans queued outside after tickets ran dry while organizers praised the crowd. Hundreds sought shade as heat illness rose and more than 200 people were treated in first aid tents.

The 15th annual Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championships drew about 70 competitors in South Park.
