Jackson Calif August 25 Hope for rescue of 47 miners trapped since midnight Sunday by a fire in the Argo Argonaut gold mine was revived as crews cleared tunnel obstructions between the Kennedy shaft and Argonaut. The 600 foot tunnel from the Kennedy shaft toward the Argonaut area lies in soft dirt with a 50 foot dirt bank at the Argonaut end and should be cleared in three to five days. Gas fumes from the burning mine fed fears the men may have perished, but Supt V S Garbarini held onto hope as a possible defense by the trapped workers at depth.
