In Sophia on August 28, two hundred forty influential Roumelian Turks were captured in the Rhodope mountains for allegedly plotting to attack Philippopolis. The seizure stirred fear that Turkish forces massed at Adrianople could use the incident as a pretext for invasion.
Memphis reports five new yellow fever cases and eight deaths since yesterday. An inspecting officer praises Memphis safeguards.
