New Machine Gun Company Formed With Sixty-Nine Men
The machine gun unit within the Guard organized last night under Captain J. H. G. with sixty-nine men enlisted or assigned. Thirty-four joined the service directly as machine gunners. the rest came from an existing company. The unit starts with sixteen surplus men, but officers are not yet named. Applicants for commissions include Jack St Clair, C. C. Stewart, and E. D. Keilman, who will travel to Topeka for preliminary exams next week. Captain John H. Dykes of Lebanon Kansas, a Phi Gamma Delta member and former University man, has been appointed second assistant to the chief of divisional headquarters. Prisoners Escape City Jail Via Vent Shaft
