Enos Slaughter Powers Athletics Past Orioles in Tight Win
Enos Slaughter belted his 150th major league homer a 380 foot shot for a 2 2 tie breaking lead in Kansas City as the Athletics beat Baltimore 2 2. Mike Kume, debuting from Savannah, worked six scoreless innings and Art Ditmar earned the win. Joe DeMaestri added a two run homer in the fifth as Kansas City snapped a late rally by Baltimore. In Philadelphia, Willard Schmidt stopped the Cardinals to a 4 1 verdict, halting a three game skid and keeping the Phils from slipping to fourth in the NL. Schmidt fanned four in a complete game the first in 10 days for a Cardinal pitcher. A double by Wally Moon and hits by Bill Virdon and Bill Sarni produced a Cardinal run in the second with further scoring in the fourth. A walk to Ken Boyer, a Red Schoendienst single and a Stan Musial hit added two more in the frame.

From State to Take Canada Goodwill Tour
Eight Kansas youths five girls and three boys completed a Canada goodwill tour sponsored by Kansas War veterans titled Operation Goodwill. Chaperoned by Mr and Mrs Warren Kaller they visited Ottawa and Quebec City on a fact finding mission. They were entertained by a Montreal service club before leaving for home. Four similar tours have occurred since 1950.
