Rural residents oppose zoning change in Douglas County plan

Douglas County planning commission approved five of six subdivision rezonings from Agriculture to Suburban Home Residential affecting 750 acres south and west of Lawrence. Residents argued the move risks mid land use clashes, while officials stressed it preserves existing subdivision use and rights to rebuild after damage. A separate five acre rezoning for a fishing-supplies store was denied without prejudice, with study planned.
