Ed Pope to appear in Russian court for medical release
Edmond Pope, an American accused of spying on Russia, was to appear in a Russian court today to appeal for a medical release after more than four months in Lefortovo prison. His attorney and U.S. officials say his health has deteriorated since his April 3 arrest on espionage charges. Pope, 54, from State College Pennsylvania, is alleged to have sought secret data on an underwater missile. His defenders say he was seeking information already available publicly. Pope has reportedly lost over 30 pounds and may have Graves disease worsened by stress.
