Police Probe Fatal Stabbing of 19YearOld in Leavenworth

Police in Leavenworth Kansas investigated the stabbing death of 19 year old Marsha Lynn Smith whose body was found in her apartment late Monday. She was stabbed in the chest and her throat slashed and marijuana was found in the residence. Investigators believe she was slain Sunday night or early Monday.

One Man Injured In Tongnaoxie Cycle Crash

Kenneth G. Nichols 31 of Rt 1 Tongnaoxie was admitted in fair condition to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a Saturday 8:30 p.m. car motorcycle collision at the U S 24 40 and K 16 intersection. Mary M. Hatch 39 of Rt 3 Lawrence drove the car. Nichols suffered arm chest and head lacerations and a dislocated hip. Vehicle damage was about 750 total.

Students Eligible To Register Here

Lawrence voters may register within 10 days if they are Kansas residents for six months and 18 by election day. City Clerk Vera Mercer notes precinct residency rules and says KU’s registration drive aims beyond the Sept 28 bond election toward the 1972 presidential race. City Hall will stay open until 9 p.m. on weeknights for registrations.

North Lawrence Bus Route Faces Loss Despite Subsidy

Duane Ogle of the Lawrence Bus Co reports five days of service funded by taxpayers versus one day paid by riders. Last week 119 passengers paid $35.70 while operating costs run about $32.50 daily or $5 per hour. The route shows weak demand with two riders per hour on average, threatening discontinuation when the city subsidy ends after a summer of losses over $1,000 per month.

Charge Filed In KSU Embezzlement Case

Former Kansas State University Student Loan Office employee Barbara J. Bussart was arrested in Wichita on a warrant for embezzling 24656 dollars from the loan account. Her husband Dale Bussart is sought on aiding and abetting charges. The couple's warrants were issued in Manhattan after a routine audit found a loan fund shortage. Bussart worked in the office from August 23, 1967, to last April.

KU Auxiliary Fees Price Freeze Rolls Back Student Prices

President Nixon’s price freeze forces KU to roll back student season tickets to 5 dollars and 4 dollars for basketball. Regular basketball and Jayhawker ticket prices return to near prefreeze levels. Parking permits drop to 10 dollars, with annual increases prorated. Jayhawker yearbook costs reduce to 7.50 before enrollment and 8 after. Stinson faces budget gaps and possible program effects.

Perry Leading In Drownings

In Kansas City, five of eight drownings this summer at Corps of Engineers lakes occurred at Perry Lake near Lawrence. Perry Lake topped 1.85 million visitors this year, nearly double 196? attendance, as the district reports about eight million visitors across 10 lakes, up from six million last year between June 8 and August 15.
