Kayakers Find Mastodon Skull Remnant in Kansas River
Four kayakers found an upper jaw and palate of a prehistoric mastodon in the Wakarusa River near Lawrence. KU paleontologists identify the skull as potentially nearly complete, dating roughly 10 000 to 20 000 years old, with plans for GPS site checks and pollen analysis to infer ancient environment.
