Navy helicopter saves Key West fisherman from drifting toward rocks

A Key West fisherman Horace Crawford broke an oar and drifted toward dangerous shoals. A Navy helicopter spotted him and maneuvered to keep his rowboat from crashing on the rocks. The helicopter hovered until a crash boat reached him and towed him to safety.

Eisenhower visits Sean O Kelly in Wicklow in rain

Former president Dwight D. Eisenhower risked a helicopter flight to Roundwood Ireland to visit former Irish president Sean T. O Kelly. He arrived in the rain on the lawn with about 150 villagers watching as he introduced grandchildren and a Gosden relative.

Jack Foster 23 of Yreka California died at Washoe Medical Clinic after being shot twice in the head by an alleged kidnapper who raided the couple from their motel room near Reno. Patricia Foster 23 of Medford Oregon survived after a brutal night of assault and escape in Carson City. Lester Morford III 18 of Santa Rosa is jailed on assault with intent to kill. Larry Foster halted the suspect and recovered the car near Silver Springs.

Parade Opens Leavenworth County Fair in Tonganoxie

A 45 minute parade crowned the District II Dairy Princess Sara Rodewald of Eudora. Anita Wacker of Leavenworth County named runner up. The pageant advances Rodewald to compete for state Dairy Princess at the Kansas State Fair September 15. Local contests, tractor pulling, talent shows, and party exhibits followed with multiple winners listed. The fair runs through Saturday with Horse Show on Sunday.

RLDS Officers Elected At Wednesday Meeting

Members of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints met Wednesday to elect officers to serve with Branch President Navy Bowman.
